Hippocrates, (Hippocratic oath sworn by doctors) considered the father of western medicine, prescribed scores of curative herbs and taught his students how to use them. No group of plants is more difficult to define than a herb. In general, a herb is a seed-producing plant that dies down at the end of the growing season and is noted for its aromatic and / or medical qualities. Medicines made from plants, on the other hand, tend to nourish the body without taxing it, to support the body system rather than suppressing it.
Herbal medicine will certainly have a major part in modern medicine, and will offer an effective alternative to conventional medicine, with the continuing research being conducted and the advancement in science and technology, there has been a great improvement in the quality of herbal medicines available.

We offer Unani medicine and Ayurveda (life) medicine both of which have been used for thousands of years in India and Arab countries and forms a large part of the Indian Health Care System.
Unani medicine originated from ancient Greece. In 460BC the Greek philosopher and father of modern medicine, Bukharath (Hippocrates) who freed medicine from the clutches of superstition and laid the foundation of Unani medicine. Unani medicine plays a vital role when the individual experiences the humoral imbalance. The correct diet and digestion can bring back the humoral imbalance. Diet therapy aims at treating certain ailments by administration of specific diets. Its main emphasis is on diagnosis of the disease through pulse, urine, stools, etc. It has laid down six essential prerequisites for the prevention of disease and places great emphasis on the maintenance of proper ecological balance and on keeping air, drinks and foods free from pollution; bodily movement and repose; psychic movement and repose; sleep and wakefulness; excretion and retention. Unani is based upon the concept of the humours (bodily fluids) and the system of diagnosis of diseases and treatment restoring health, revolves round the concept of temperament. Another distinctive feature of the Unani system of medicine is its emphasis on diagnosing a disease through pulse, a rhythmic expansion of the arteries which is felt by the fingers. The reading of the pulse permits a rather straightforward assessment of several factors: 1) which humour is out of balance; 2) what is the nature of the imbalance; that is, excess of heat or coldness, wetness or dryness; 3) which of the primary organs are affected. Other methods of diagnosis include examination of urine and stool, etc. The humours also have specific temperament. Changes in temperament are related to changes in the balance of humours and any change brings about a change in the individual. This imbalance of temperament and harmony of the humours, along with the failure of one or more parts of the body to eliminate pathogenic waste causes disease. So diet and the use of naturally occurring medicines (herbal) are very important in the treatment of illness.

“Ayurveda” medicine means “the science of life” It is the oldest and most holistic medical system available on the planet. It was placed in written form over 5,000 years ago in India, it is said to be a world medicine dealing with both body and the spirit. Veda Vyasa, (revered figure) the famous sage shaktavesha avatar of Vishnu (God or Spirit), put into writing the complete knowledge of Ayurveda, along with the more directly spiritual insights of self realization into a body of scriptural literature called the Vedas and the Vedic literatures.
There were four main books of spirituality which included among other topics, health astrology spiritual business poetry and spiritual living and behaviour. These books are known as the four Vedas; Rik, Sama, Yajur and Atharva. The Rik Veda (also known as Rig Veda) refers to the cosmology known as Sankhya which lies at the base of both Ayurveda and Yoga, and contains verses on nature of health and disease, pathogenesis and principles of treatment, and the use of herbs to heal the diseases of the mind and body and to foster longevity. Among the Rik Veda (the world’s most ancient text) are found discussions of Vata, Pitta and Kapha collectively known as the doshas or tridoshas are equivalent to the four humors in Greek medicine: blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. Each dosha predominates in a particular part of the body: kapha in the chest, pitta in the digestive organs, and vata in the large intestine.
The Atharva Veda lists the eight divisions of Ayurveda: Internal Medicine, Toxicology, Gerontology and Fertility etc.
The Vedic Sages took the passages from the Vedic Scriptures relating to Ayurveda and compiled separate books dealing only with Ayurveda. One of these books, called the Atreya Samhita is the oldest medical book in the world!
The sage-physician surgeons; Vaidyas (physicians of Ayurveda) were deeply devoted holy people, who saw health as integral part of spiritual life. Their knowledge of the use of various methods of healing, prevention, longevity and surgery came through divine revelation; there was no guessing or testing and harming of animals. These revelations were transcribed from the oral tradition into book form, interspersed with the other aspects of life and spirituality. What is fascinating is Ayurveda’s use of all methods of healing like herbs, foods, aromas, gems, colours, yoga, mantras, lifestyle and surgery. Consequently Ayurveda grew into a respected and widely used system of healing in India.
Modern methods of chemistry biochemistry and clinical research are being used to find out the utility of a particular Ayurveda drug and find out its active chemical constituents. This is being done in research institutions which are wholly modern in their outlook. Through the research carried out on Ayurveda herbs and medicine, all the methods and appliances used belong to modern biochemistry and clinical research.
The manufacture of Unani and Ayurveda medicines is being regulated by the Government of India through the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.
Differences between Ayurveda and Unani Medicine
Most of the herbal remedies are common in Ayurveda and Unani medicine. In the Ayurveda system, names are in sanakrit, whereas in Unani system, in Arabic or Persian. In fact both systems have practically emerged as one integrated system.
We at Natural World Herbal Remedies use Dehlvi’s Single Herbs
Plants take up substances from the earth and convert them into vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins and fats that our bodies use for nourishment and healing. By using the whole plant, Dehlvi Remedies takes in all the vital ingredients it carries. We therefore, believe in the harmonious view the “whole plant is worth more than the sum of its parts”. When the whole plant is used rather than extracted constituents, the different parts interact producing a greater therapeutic effect than the equivalent dosage of isolated active constituents that are generally preferred in conventional (allopathic) medicine where often a drug is over-refined and may lose some of the other components that complement or prevent side effects.
Dehlvi’s single herbs do NOT contain fillers, grains, soy, yeast, sugars, binders, starches, or synthetic materials. Our global sourcing of raw materials ensures that the highest quality products are chosen from each harvest season. Most of our herbs are ORANICALLY grown. Since India does not have such an organic certification system, they can not certify them as organic; however most of our herbs are wild crafted and are not sprayed with any pesticides or insecticides.
